dearmargaretDear Margaret:  I'm in my late 40's and think I may be having a "mid-life crisis." I cut my hair, got a piercing, and came close to divorcing my husband. Do you know if these sound like typical symptoms and what I can do about it?
Losing my mind at 48

Dear Losing my mind at 48:  So much has been written about the mid-life crisis (note I'm not putting it in quotes). I recently saw a "newscast" (notice the quotes) stating we've been duped and the mid-life crisis isn't a thing.  It is. However, this period marked by behavior not in keeping with one's normal mode of operation or restlessness occurs in the early 40's.  At 48 you are past this point.  Near the age of 50, another milestone is reached in which people generally look back over their life to see what they have and have not accomplished and decide what to leave behind and what to take forward. From what you describe, your current behavior doesn't seem to fit this stage of your life.  If you are worried that you are making decisions from which there may be no return, my suggestion would be to speak with a professional to help you navigate the current deviation from your usual path.
