Rogues' Harbor Inn owner Eileen Stout announced Tuesday that Rogues' Harbor Brewing Co. is changing its name.  The brewery is now called Stouthearted Brewing. The name is inspired by it's owner and its mission to brew the best food friendly ales around.

The name change was motivated by a trademark infringement suit that was brought against the small Lansing brewery by the Oregon Brewing Co, AKA Rogue Ales in Washington state.  Stout says she would likely have won the lawsuit, but it would have been too costly to fight.

"There are lots of lawsuits flying around the once friendly craft brewing industry," she says.  "Rogues' Harbor Brewing Co. experienced the darker side of the industry recently.  Although the name was derived a long time ago (114 years!) from the National Historic Landmark inn, it seemed impractical to fight the suit.  So the parties came to an agreement."

Stout and brewer Chris Williams began brewing in 2011 in the small building next to the Rogues' Harbor Inn & Restaurant.  They craft brew 2 barrels (4 kegs) per batch. Current offerings are: Cayuga Cream Ale, Route 34 Red Ale, East Shore Pale Ale, Brewer's Choice & Dark Devotion. This past spring the brewery opened a tasting room in the brewery itself open weekends noon till 4 pm where guests can sample their craft brews and see the brewers in action.
