reed13a 120Tom Reed brought together manufacturers from across the Southern Tier, Finger Lakes and Western New York, during a day-long manufacturing summit held at Corning-Painted Post High School.

"We care about helping U.S. manufacturing succeed because it means good jobs for people right here at home.  This summit gave local manufacturers an opportunity to learn about what programs are available to them and share ideas so they can grow and create the jobs that our workforce deserves," said Reed.

Attendees heard from policy experts, economic development agencies and lawmakers about opportunities that are available to U.S. manufacturers. Panelists included representatives from the U.S. House of Representatives Committee on Ways and Means, the AIM Photonics Institute, Corning Inc., Dream It Do It Western New York, Buffalo Manufacturing Works and Cornell University, among many others

"Manufacturing remains the foundation of our regional economy. The manufacturing summit is an opportunity to highlight the importance of manufacturing, share ideas and discuss topics that will help manufacturing continue to prosper," said Todd Tranum Executive Director of the Manufacturers Association of the Southern Tier and CEO of Dream It Do It Western New York.

Dream It Do It Western New York is a local service organization which connects manufacturers with skilled employees and makes efforts to ensure the next generation of employees has the skill set necessary to excel in in-demand manufacturing jobs.

"Corning Incorporated is a 165 year-old company headquartered in New York State.  We are committed to providing good quality manufacturing jobs in the United States.  We appreciate the support we receive from Congressman Reed and all our government representatives at the local, state and national level to assure that these jobs will continue." said Corning Enterprises President G. Thomas Tranter Jr., who co-chairs the Southern Tier Regional Economic Development Council.

Reed was also joined at the event by Congressman Chris Collins (NY-27), State Senator Tom O'Mara and Assemblyman Phil Palemasno to discuss effective representation.

"Rebuilding our region's manufacturing industry is absolutely vital to Western New York's growth," said Congressman Collins. "For every manufacturing job created six other jobs are created.  Together, we need to ensure Western New York's manufacturers have the resources needed to compete and succeed."

The summit is the latest of Reed's effort to champion U.S. manufacturing. As co-chair of the House Manufacturing Caucus and sponsor of the bipartisan, Revitalizing American Manufacturing and Innovation Act, Reed has made job creation his top priority throughout the area. Reed's act brought the new Photonics Institute to Western New York and over $600 million in investment to our region.

The event was lived streamed and subsequently recorded on Reed's facebook page.

This is the second summit Reed has sponsored. The 2015 summit was held in Jamestown.
