Heather McDanielHeather D. McDaniel, Vice President and Director of Economic Development Services at Tompkins County Area Development (TCAD) earned the designation of Certified Economic Developer (CEcD), a national recognition that denotes a mastery of skills in economic development, professional attainment and a commitment to personal and professional growth.  Candidates must pass a rigorous and comprehensive examination, which has three parts, including an interview portion, and spans two days.

McDaniel was one of 12 candidates (out of 40) that passed the CEcD exam administered by the International Economic Development Council (IEDC) on September 24-25, 2016 in Cleveland, OH.

The CEcD designation recognizes qualified and dedicated practitioners in the economic development field and sets the standard of excellence within the profession. Excellence in the economic development profession improves the wellbeing, quality of life and opportunities for individuals, businesses and communities.

Utilizing her 10 years of economic development experience, McDaniel assists businesses in accessing the resources they need to start, stay, and grow in Tompkins County. She is the Administrative Director of the Tompkins County Development Corporation and the Tompkins County IDA. She administers the TCAD revolving loan program and provides referrals to local, regional, State, and Federal incentive programs. She also takes an active role in business retention and expansion visits to local companies.

McDaniel has a Master's degree in Urban Planning from New York University and a Bachelor's degree in Sociology from the University of California, Berkeley. She is a member of the American Institute of Certified Planners, the International Economic Development Council, and she is a certified Economic Development Finance Professional. Heather serves on the Tompkins County Library Foundation Board of Trustees, The United Way of Tompkins County, and The Sciencenter Board of Trustees.
