Assemblywoman Barbara Lifton (D/WF- 125th District) announced that her legislation to extend state Education Law provisions for three years to comply with the federal Individuals with Disabilities Education Improvement Act of 2004 (IDEA) was signed into law Monday by Governor Cuomo.

"I am pleased that this legislation has been signed by the Governor, extending our state implementing law for the Individuals with Disabilities Education Improvement Act," Lifton said. "This three-year extender law will ensure that federal funds allocated under IDEA will continue to flow unimpeded to New York Schools until June 30, 2021."

"By enacting this law, we maintain our high standards and critical funding for educating those with disabilities across our state," Lifton said. "We must not forego any available resources, because we now understand that, with appropriate accommodations and specialized services, all our children can succeed in school."
