Jeff EvenerJeff EvenerMiddle School Principal Jeff Evener announced he will be leaving the Lansing Central School District next week.  Lansing Superintendent Chris Pettograsso told Board Of Education members that Evener's last day at Lansing Middle School will be next Tuesday.  The following week Elementary School Principal Christine Rebera will replace Evener as Middle School Principal.

"Our Middle School Principal has been offered a position in Auburn as Assistant Superintendent of Personnel for the Auburn Enlarged City School District," Pettograsso said.  "It's a move up and he's very excited about it, but of course he will certainly miss Lansing.  His time here was short-lived, but he was well loved, especially by the students."

Evener served at Lansing Middle School for just one year, taking the helm of the school in August of 2014.  The new position represents a return to Auburn, where he started his teaching career as a 7th grade social studies teacher.  Between Auburn and Lansing he was Groton Middle School Principal and Athletic Director for Groton Schools, as well as Mayor of the Village of Groton.

Christine ReberaChristine ReberaPettograsso said that whenever there is an opening in the district the district gives current faculty and staff an opportunity to apply for the job.  Rebera was originally hired at the Lansing elementary school as a substitute teaching first grade, then fourth grade for a semester, then second grade, which she taught for ten years.  She earned her administrative certification at SUNY Cortland, then interned in Lansing, working with then Elementary Principal Pettograsso.  After earning that certification she became the Lansing/Groton Teacher Center Director, and replaced Pettograsso as Principal in 2013 when Pettograsso was chosen to be Superintendent.  She is set to begin as Middle School Principal October 19th.

"We knew that Ms. Rebera had an interest in the position in the past, and has worked with adolescents," Pettograsso said.  "She was very excited at the opportunity to transfer to the Middle School.  She is very excited."

Chris PettograssoChris PettograssoThat leaves an opening in the Elementary School.  Pettograsso said she will fill in until an Interim Principal can be hired.

"The fortunate piece about this is I have personal knowledge of the workings of the Elementary School, so there won't be any gaps," she said.  "This is going to be a fast transition.  I'll be working with the elementary faculty and staff until we can find an appropriate Interim Principal.  I will start recruiting for an elementary principal in January or earlier.  It's nice that we have some time to get the word out that we're looking for a highly qualified candidate."

She said the community will be involved in the hiring process, that she anticipates will begin next March.
