ruthhughesRuth Bachelor Davis Hughes, formerly of Lansingville, passed away peacefully in the presence of family, August 22, 2014, at the Groton Nursing Facility, at the age of 101.

Born October 18, 1912, she was a daughter of the late Herbert and Susie (Inman) Bachelor. Ruth built a cottage overlooking the lake at Myers.  She loved to drive anywhere, anytime for any reason. She was a charter member of the Lansingville Ladies Auxiliary, a member of the Lake Ridge Home Bureau, the Red Hat Society during her time of Florida, and volunteered for Civil Defense.

What Ruth lacked in size she made up for with a gentle kindness to everyone.  She will be missed dearly by her family and by the staff at Groton Nursing Home.

In addition to her parents, Ruth was preceded in death by her first husband, Claude Davis; her husband, Arthur Hughes; sons, Glenn Davis, Harold “Hod” Davis; daughter, Helen Inman; sisters, Jennie Whipple, Mable Teeter, Henrietta Smith; brothers, Wellington Bachelor, Casper Bachelor, and a granddaughter, Darla Wheeler.
Ruth is survived by her children, Barbara Tobey (Sherman), Carl Davis (Lou Belle), Linda Fink (Michael), Darlene Jackson (Louis), Kenneth Davis (Cheryl Hall); daughter in law, Janice Davis; sister, Joyce Kimpland; sisters-in-law, Eleanor and Josephine Bachelor; 25 grandchildren; 56 great grandchildren; and 21 great great grandchildren.  Ruth also leaves behind a large extended family.

A funeral service, officiated by Pastor Jane Sautter, will begin at 11 am, Wednesday, August 27th, at Lansing United Methodist Church, 32 Brickyard Rd., Lansing, NY.  Interment, at Lansingville Cemetery, will be private.
