mailmanI have twice read Casey Steven's proposal that a minute of silence "stand down" from the media, and those of us who read and listen to it, will restore civility and make us realize that opposing views are destroying our country. I see no sense in it.

How could that possibly accomplish anything? Everyone being silent for a minute isn't going to diffuse what is basically the second civil war happening in our country today. The idea lacks substance.

It's nice to think about a minute of silence (like Dorothy clicking her heels together in the "Wizard of Oz" to go back home) but wishing won't make it true.

The only way to improve the country is to be alert to its problems, not go to sleep.
