Coming off a two-game split in the Oneonta Festival this weekend where the Bobcats fell to Goshen and beat Cincinnatus, Lansing won its home opener against Newark Valley. Playing their third game in a row, the Bobcats came out a little slow. Going about their game plan Lansing controlled the ball in the midfield, but couldn't find the final connection for a goal. The Cardinal's defense kept the crosses from finding the correct head and didn't allow many clean shots from the middle of the field. Newark Valley's keeper, made numerous diving saves, even pushing one up to hit the crossbar and out.

Cross after cross got rejected or headed out, until Lansing midfielder Langston Hopkins rose above his defender to head in the game's first goal on a beautiful cross by Lansing Miller. A few minutes later the Bobcats would add to their lead on a shot by Aidan Huslebosch that took its time rolling over the line and another on a corner kick that was cleaned up by sophomore Joe Besemer.

There would be no more goals scored, but a few opportunities for both teams. Newark Valley narrowly avoided giving up another goal to Hopkins, but the keeper made the diving save. Later in the game, the Cardinals played a ball into their striker at the top of the box. However goalkeeper Jack Yahn was there to punch it away.

The Bobcats finished this streak of games 3-1, as they travelled south to face the Whitney Point Eagles Tuesday. The result was another tick in the win column with a score of 5-1. Sophomore Mason Edwards scored the game's first two goals, while another sophomore, Joe Beesmer, added one to his season total.

While Lansing held true to its game plan of possession through the midfield, they did let one slip in on the back end. After a foul was called just outside the box, the Whitney Point player shot it over the wall. Lansing goalkeeper Jack Yahn made the initial save, coming across his goal-mouth and pushed the ball off the crossbar. Unfortunately, an Eagles player was there to put in the rebound, breaking Yahn's two-game clean sheet streak.

Even though the Bobcats have played four games consecutively, they did not suffer any serious injuries and will have a few days off to recover. They will be heading to Trumansburg to play their rivals Saturday night at 7pm. For those unable to attend, the game will be broadcasted on the local Lansing radio station ESPN 1160.
