Lansing's Girls Varsity Swimming and Diving team trounced Southern Cayuga 116 to 54 in Thursday's meet at Lansing High School Thursday afternoon (9/15).   

In the first event, the Girls 200 Yard Medley Relay, Nikki Dean, Becky Mapes, Claire Eckstrom and co-captain Caitlin Wright finished with the best time of 2:03.45.  Co-captain Kiki Griff, Leigh Conley, Kristin Carlson and Kendal Dean also scored, with the third best time of 2:14.96.  Lansing took the event with a total of 10 points to SC's 4.


Lansing swimmer Hannah Wingate had scored 6 points with the best time of 2:07.32 in the Girls 200 Yard Freestyle.  Two other Lansing team mates also scored, including KC Hatfield (2:17.79) and Katrina Mehringer (2:33.44).  Again, Lansing won the event 12-4.

11-5 with Caitlin Wright swimming the best time at 2:29.30.  Kendal Dean (2:43.09) and Leigh Conley (2:44.45) also scored for Lansing.

In the 4th event all three Lansing girls scored.  Nikki Dean (25.44) made the top score, with Rachel Bland (28.09) and Kayla Arrison (30.07) close behind.  Lansing took the event 10-6.

Lansing also dominated Girls 1 mtr Diving when Danyelle Barron (124.75), Kristin Carlson (145.45) and Kiki Gifft (184.15) were the only three competing.  With no SC divers, no points were scored.

Next Hannah Wingate made the best time in the Girls 100 Yard Butterfly, finishing in 1:06.73.  Kristin Carlson took 4th place in the event with a time of 1:19.68.  The event was tied.

In the Girls 100 Yard Freestyle Lansing girls took first and second place when Caitlin Wright completed the swim in 58.66 and Rachel Bland finished in 1:01.03.

The eighth event was Girls 500 Yard Freestyle.  Kendal Dean came in second in 6.32.98, just 9 seconds behind Southern Cayuga's winning time.  Lexi Peyton scored with a time of 6:40.28, followed by Kayla Arrison at 6:40.82, giving Lansing a score of 9 to SC's 7 for the event.

Next came the Girls 200 Yard Freestyle Relay where two of Lansing's three teams took first and second.  Nikki Dean, Rachel Bland, Hannah Wingate and Caitlin Wright made the best time with 1:48.03, followed by Becky Mapes, Katrina Mehringer, Danyelle Barron and Chelsie Radcliff, who finished in 2:01.31.  Lansing scored 12 to SC's 2.

With three events to go, Lansing took SC 13-3 in the Girls 100 Yard Backstroke when Nikki Dean (1:05.10), KC Hatfield (1:13.40) and Anna Mapes (1:18.55) took first, second and third place.  Lansing girls also took first and second place in the Girls 100 Yard Breaststroke.  Becky Mapes finished in 1:17.76 with Claire Eckstrom close behind at 1:18.15.  Julie Butler also scored with a time of 1:27.84, giving Lansing 11 to SC's 5.

In the 12th and final competiton, two of Lansing's three teams took first and third place.  Kendal Dean, Rachel Bland, KC Hatfield and Hannah Wingate made the best time at 4:11.04.  Kayla Arrison, Kristin Carlson, Katrina Mehringer and Kiki Gifft came in at 4:35.32 for a score of Lansing 10 to SC 4.

Coach Coach Dianne Hicks-Hughes's and Assistant Swim/Diving Coach Nancie Tenge's team had a very successful evening with Lansing taking or tieing every event.
