basketball_girls120The Lansing Girls Basketball team opened the 2010-11 season with a 45-18 win at Marathon on Tuesday night. Jocelyn Ford led the way with 19 points and a team high 6 rebounds, while Shanna Shaff chipped in with 9 points on 3 of 4 shooting from behind the arc.

Colby McCartney had 6 points, Carlene Fields and Maura McCartney added 3 points each, Soraya Leathers and Shea McCartney had 2 points and Kathryn Hornibrook had 1 point. Nina Lindberg contributed a team high 5 assists, while Taylor Policay had a team high 5 steals.

After a sluggish first quarter that ended with a 8-7 Lansing lead, the Ladycats went on a 32-1 run over the 2nd & 3rd quarters to essentially put the game out of reach, including shutting out the Olympians in the third quarter. The entire team contributed in a solid defensive effort that forced 33 Marathon turnovers, while holding them to 20% shooting from the field.

This years team is made up of 3 Seniors; Co-Captains Jocelyn Ford and Nina Lindberg and first time Varsity player Kathryn Hornibrook, 8 Juniors; Rachel Bruce, Megan Drake, Carlene Fields, Soraya Leathers, Colby McCartney, Taylor Policay, Shanna Shaff and Sabrina Tilton, and two 8th graders twins Maura and Shea McCartney.

The Ladycats have their home opener this Friday December 3rd as they host Division rival Dryden following the 6:30 JV contest.
