baseball_varsity1_120The Lansing baseball team defeated Waverly Wednesday 7-0, behind the one hit pitching of Senior Harrison Herzog. Lansing scored a run in the first inning without the benefit of a hit as Ellington Hopkins walked, stole second, advanced to third on a sacrifice fly and scored on a Harrison Herzog ground out.

Waverly got their only hit of the game in the bottom half of the first inning on an infield hit by Tyler Bauman, a slow chopper to third base that Bauman just beat out. From that point forward it was the pitching of Herzog and solid defense, highlighted by the play of shortstop Sean Streb, that kept the Wolverines off the scoreboard.

The game remained 1-0 until the 6th inning when Lansing broke things open with 6 runs. JD McKane led off the inning with a walk, Sam Currie followed with a single, then the big hit came from pinch hitter Mario Rosetti who singled home McKane, Ellington Hopkins followed with an RBI single, then Sean Streb brought home 2 runs with a triple pushing the lead to 5-0 and essentially putting the game out of reach for the Wolverines.

The Bobcats will start Sectional play with a home game on Friday May 27th.
