hocky2_120The Salmon River Storm hockey team was hosted by the I.Y.H.A. Pee Wee 2 team this last Saturday at The Rink in Lansing.  As with the previous six teams that faced Peewee 2, the Storm might have wished that they had stayed home.

IYHA PeeWee 2, comprised of 9 Lansing skaters under the age of 12, started off slowly in the first period.

Turning over the puck several times in the neutral zone, IYHA PeeWee 2 allowed the first three shots to be taken on net-minder Ryan Besemer before gaining control of the period.  With two minutes left in the first,  Nic Whittaker redirected a shot past the Storm goalie, taking a lead it never surrendered.  Only 8 seconds later, Josh Zajac took a face off all the way into the Storm defensive zone to rip a strong wrist shot over the Storms glove hand.

The second period again started slowly for IYHA PeeWee 2 with the team peppering the Storms net with numerous shots however none found the back of the net.    Answering the call, Zajac again scored in what would end as a four goal effort for the day.  By the end of the second period the score stood at 4-0.

The third period saw the IYHA PeeWee 2 defensive pairs of Colin McClure and  Ryan Franzese along with Sean O’Neil and Blake Sears shut down the Storms offensive efforts for the remainder of the game.  Additional goals from Nic Whittaker,  Teo Levitan-Armstrong, and Jack Babuka in the third led to a final score of 8-0.  Ryan Besemer was able to post his second shutout of the year.

The PeeWee 2 team will play two home games this weekend, facing Mid-State at the Rink at 11:15 on Saturday and Oswego at Lynah Rink at 9:00am on Sunday.
