2/11/06  Broome County Arena  --  Kyle Dake accomplished what only two other Lansing wrestlers had ever done, winning a Section IV wrestling title.

"Dakey" beat Chenango Valley's Nick Troutman 17-2 in Friday's quarter- final match. He then beat Cody Dill of Unatego in a Class "C" final rematch with a major decision 11-0 in the semi-final. Dake then beat Waverly's Devin Soper 3-1 to capture the 96 pound crown. Although the score didn't reflect Dake's dominance of the match.

Dake wrestled one of his best matches of this year, giving up only a locking hands penalty point to his opponent. He wrestled smart, and conservative not giving Soper a chance to score. Jon Glennon, Vernon Nabinger, Curtis Fenner, and Mike Gonzales all were one match short of placing in the top six at their respective weight classes. They wrestled hard, but came up short.  All of the wrestlers should be proud.  They represented themselves and Lansing with class and honor.

Dake will next compete at the NYSPHSAA State Championships on Febuary 24 and 25 at the Nassau Coliseum.

(Doug Dake is the Lansing Varsity Wrestling Coach)
