During the Feb. 25-26 weekend, the 14U and 19U Ithaca Shooting Stars girls hockey teams competed in the Central Sectionals and each came in second place securing their positions in the upcoming New York State Tier 2 Girls Hockey Championship Tournaments next weekend, March 10-12. The 12U team lost a close game on Sunday as they prepare for the 12U States in Buffalo this weekend, March 3-5.

The Ithaca 19Us started the 19U Tier 2 Central Section tournament with a tough 2-1 loss to eventual champion Camillus Cougars 19Us on Saturday morning. Emily McPherson scored assisted by Emily Grippin and Megan Nervina. The Stars put 34 shots on goal including 16 in the third period but could only score once. Maegan Mikula made 23 saves in goal for Ithaca. In the second game the girls rebounded with a convincing 11-2 win over Oswego.

McPherson led all scorers with two goals and five assists. Grippin added four goals and Nervina three. Allyson Granish and Deanna Sturdevant also scored. Sturdevant also had three assists. Michelle Flash and Danielle Reynolds each added an assist. On Sunday they beat their long time nemesis, Mohawk Valley Herricanes, 3-1. McPherson, Granish and Robin Worsell scored with Hannah Kyle, McPherson, Granish and Nervina assisting. Mikula turned aside 24 shots. Other members of the team include Leigh Trumpfheller and Haley Gross. The two wins secured them their spot in the upcoming state tournament in Utica.

The Ithaca 14Us also began their tournament games against the Camillus Cougars 14Us on Saturday morning. They were defeated 3-2 despite outshooting Camillus in each period. Lauren Cole and Emma Marshall scored unassisted, and Sarah Eisenhut make 10 saves. Later that day Ithaca beat the Skaneateles Lakers 14Us 9-0 while putting 36 shots on their goalie. Whitney Colbert, Katie Long, and Sarah Mogil scored two goals apiece while Lucy Marshall, Cole and Emma Marshall had single tallies.

Assists were made by Erin Grainger, Emily Eisenhut, Long, Colbert, Cole and Emma Marshall. Other team members are Chelsea Patterson, Colleen Dillon, Kelly Shenk, and Alex Colbert. The one win advanced the Ithaca 14Us to their state tournament in Potsdam.

Ithaca's 12U team lost 2-1 to the Binghamton 16Us. Goalie Angela Everhart had 17 saves.
Marissa Ramos scored the lone goal assisted by Meredith Kirk and Catherine Watkins.
