The Rec department has boys and girls travel teams at the 5th and 6th grade levels.  "Travel is different from the in-house program," says Lansing Recreation Director Steve Colt.  "It's more competitive."  This season Lansing teams have competed against Homer, Marathon, Groton, Dryden, and Ithaca.

"The kids came a long way, says Colt.  "Our teams this year were a little on the young side, experience-wise.  They really made some great strides as we got to the end of the year.  Their skills increased and they started to win ball games."

Colt says it's difficult to schedule the busy gym in Lansing High School, but it's worth it.  "It's better for a lot of reasons," he explains.  "The floor is bigger, the kids can spread out and run more, and the capability to handle spectators is better.  We can keep the spectators a little farther away from the floor, which makes for a better experience for the players."

Winning both games finished the season on a high note.  "They enjoyed it," says Colt.  "They found out what it took to be able to win games on a consistent basis.  They really picked up well on it."
