Lansing XC Competes at 34th Annual Newark Valley Bob Greene Invitational On Friday afternoon, over 25 teams traveled to Newark Valley Senior High School to compete in the 34th annual Newark Valley-Bob Greene Invitational.

The Corning teams won both Varsity A races with impressively low scores.  The girls of Corning, currently ranked 6th in the state, were paced by Jessica Lawson, who holds the third fastest individual time in the state this season and is a favorite for the state title in a few weeks.  Kate Mertus, Lawson, and Emily Niu swept the top three places.

Corning's varsity boys are presently the top-ranked team in the state and finished this meet just two points away from a perfect score, ending with 17 points. Overall winner Kevin Moshier had a nearly 20 second lead on his teammates Quinn Nicholson, Bryce Derick, and Dan Gahagan who finished within one second of each other for places two through four.

Awards were presented to the top two large and small schools competing at the meet, and while New York's Corning team dominated the large school division, the Pennsylvania teams from Montrose and Elk Lake secured small school wins in the boys and girls Varsity A races, respectively.

Lansing entered teams in the modified boys race as well as both Varsity A races.  With over half the modified team running to new personal records in a race that saw over 230 finishers, Lansing's boys secured 4th place amongst the small schools behind Delhi, Elk Lake, and Chenango Valley.  Lansing varsity boys were 5th amongst the smalls schools with 5 of the 7-member squad racing to new personal best times.  Lansing Ladycats ran to a third place finish amongst the small schools behind Elk Lake and Newark Valley.
