Today, Rep. Tom Reed announced National Endowment for the Humanities grants for two important institutions in the region. The first grant, totaling $103,386, has been awarded to Cornell University in Ithaca, and the second $79,814 grant has been awarded to The History Center in Tompkins County.

“We are proud to see two organizations from our district recognized at the federal level for their significant contributions to the community and the preservation of history,” said Tom. “This funding will benefit our communities, create jobs in the district, and support our economy. We are glad these organizations received the recognition they deserved and we appreciate their efforts in our district.”

The funds designated for Cornell University will be used for the Cornell University Press – Open Access in a Closed World Project, and will include the retention of two full-time and one part-time Cornell University Press staff members. Likewise, the funds will also be used to develop a permanent digital repository for the press’s Open Access titles as well as for the digitization of a new Open Access eBooks in the humanities and humanistic social sciences.

The funds designated for the History Center in Tompkins County will be used for the Youth Program Resilience , and Community Archives and Exhibits. The funds will allow for the retention of four staff members to enhance the youth programs, expand online exhibits and increase archival digitization.
