hangar_facade120The Hangar Theatre’s Artistic Director Peter Flynn has announced the Hangar’s 2011 Summer Mainstage season. The Hangar will present a hilarious and heart-warming comedy; a notable Broadway musical; a world premiere production; another August Wilson classic; and an artsy and provocative favorite.

The comedy that will launch the season is Richard Dresser’s Rounding Third, a hilarious and touching journey of two fathers coaching little league; followed by the Tony-Award winning musical Ragtime which celebrates the pursuit of the American Dream.

The season continues with a world premiere by Tim Pinckney Ever So Humble, a new comedy in the spirit of “Will & Grace,” inspired by the classic E.M. Forster novel, Howard’s End; followed by August Wilson’s Gem of the Ocean, a beautiful family drama by August Wilson, the Pulitzer Prize-winning writer of The Piano Lesson that was on stage for the Hangar’s 2010 season.

The season concludes with a classic rock musical that will have you doing “The Time Warp” in the aisle, The Rocky Horror Show, another regional premiere right on the Hangar stage. The 2011 lineup proves to be an exciting and dynamic season that you will not want to miss.

“The 2011 season is all about family: those into which we're born, and those we choose,” says Peter Flynn, Artistic Director.  “Each play examines the struggles and celebrations among sisters & brothers, fathers and sons, mothers & godmothers, as well as how we identify ourselves by our roots, and what we look to create in our family of friends.  We all come from one, so there's plenty to laugh at and share in the 2011 Hangar summer season."
