Moving Landscapes continues the Triphammer Arts/CRS Barn Studio tradition of bringing innovative dance and music partnerships to Ithaca audiences. Beginning with an outdoor prologue performed in the gardens, with a panoramic view of Cayuga Lake, the evening will include choreographed pieces in a wide range of dance styles, as well as music-and-dance improvisations that promise to be both unpredictable and entertaining.

Moving Landscapes 2018 features work by established professionals and emerging young choreographers, with a strong emphasis on live music, original music/sound compositions, and audience interaction. Choreographer and professional photographer Jari Poulin premiers In Again Out Again, a movement and soundscape exploration that travels back and forth between the external physical world and the internal experience of the mind and senses. New solos include On and Off the Mat by Bernadette Fiocca of Ithaca; Michelle Iklé's jazz-inflected Gems; Ithacan Julie Nathanielsz' Seed/Bed, a reflection on landscape, language, and the body; and Rochester choreographer Donna Davenport's Swap, in which the audience and the performer swap sounds and drive the action.

From Geneva, Kelly Johnson brings Cycles Back Around with an ensemble of seven, and Hobart student Ellie Cherry offers her solo, the act of degrading to a mere [sex] object. Jeanne Goddard provides a set of structured music-dance improvisations in collaboration with baritone Steven Stull, pianist John White, and guitarist David Coester, Ithaca musicians who will also perform song selections throughout the program. This is a rare opportunity to see the work in all stages of development, to observe dance making in action in an informal setting with live music, and to mingle with the artists after the show.

The full dance ensemble includes Amy Bush, Sarah Cavanaugh, Ellie Cherry, Donna Davenport, Bernadette Fiocca, Jeanne Goddard, Shayna Grajo, Liz Herman, Michelle Iklé, Kelly Johnson, Janice Kovar, Karen Koyanagi, Cailey Mastrangelo, Julie Nathanielsz, Jari Poulin, Yvette Rubio, and Lesley Tillotson.

For over twenty-five years Triphammer Arts and the CRS Barn Studio have organized and hosted these "showcase" performances to celebrate the art form of dance and to recognize choreographic talent from across the region. Artistic directors Jeanne Goddard and Steven Stull annually bring together dancers and musicians from Ithaca, Elmira, Cortland, Binghamton, Geneva, Syracuse, Rochester, and beyond, to present high quality, audience-friendly productions both outdoors and indoors at the CRS Growers organic vegetable farm on Triphammer Road.
