Earlene CarrThis week has been one of farewells at the Lansing Central School District. Superintendent Mark Lewis thanked her for her service as Interim Principal at R. C. Buckley Elementary School. Carr has filled in as the building principal for three years since Josh Bornstein left the district. "This is a bittersweet moment," Lewis said. "It's been my pleasure to work with my colleague, Earlene Carr, for the past year and a half, and tonight will be her last Board of Education meeting as the principal of RC Buckley Elementary School. I personally want to express my gratitude and appreciation for all you have done for the young people of Lansing, for your collegiality, for your support of me during my superintendency, and for what you have done in this community."Board of Education President Bonita Lindberg presented Carr with a photograph of the school, and Vice President Anne Drake presented a cake in appreciation of Carr's tenure. "Just a little something so that you will remember us as we will always remember you," Lindberg said. "It has been a pleasure." The demonstrative Carr was well loved for her 'slice of life' reports at school board meetings, and exuberant daily announcements at the elementary school. Her positive attitude was constantly expressed as a celebration of the children she oversaw. "We will definitely miss you, and specifically the 'slices of life,' Lewis said.
"I would be remiss if I didn't address the board and community at this departing time," Carr said. "I want to tell you that 'parting is such sweet sorrow.' It is certainly true, and certainly evident. I want to thank the staff at the elementary school for putting up with me. I know there were times they said, 'she wanted what?!' There were other times when they said, 'You know what, we doubted it, but it worked out just grand.' I really appreciated that.
"I appreciated the board for supporting my endeavors, and for supporting my 'slice of life' at the elementary school. I want you to know that I really didn't embellish it -- it really is the truth.

Earlene Carr says farewell
"And finally I want to say that it has been a wonderful ride on the R.C. Buckley luxury liner. It has been superb! I think I had a stateroom on the top where I could overlook the turbulence of the sea as it occurred, stillness of the sea as it occurred. Not only was it a wonderful ride, but it was a fantastic view.
"It's been my pleasure to have been at R.C. Buckley. It is one of the finest elementary schools that I have been associated with in my years of being a principal. And that's a tribute to children, who every day made learning an opportunity and an experience. A tribute to staff who helped their endeavors to be respectful, responsible, and ready to learn, the parents and the community for all of their support.
"As I look into the future, and I think I'm clairvoyant here, I can tell you that R.C. Buckley has no place to go but upwards, and that is exactly where it will go. I will look from my position on the hill as I oversee the kinds of things I know you will be doing, and again, my appreciation to the Board, my appreciation to the community. It has been a fantastic journey!"
