fw 120Myers Park will be the site of the Lansing Fireworks for the fifth year next Friday (July 3rd) starting at 6pm.  Fireworks in the park has become a Lansing tradition, including food, music, and of course, finishing the night with a bang.  This year organizer Dennis Griffin says the show will be bigger and better than ever.

"The fireworks will last at least a half an hour this year," Griffin says.  "This year we increased it.  I'm looking forward to the bigger show, and everybody coming to the park and having fun."

The opening presentation will be at 7pm, with music playing in the park starting at 6pm.  Rick Hayes is slated to sing the National Anthem, then Steve Southworth and the Rockabilly Rays will play live.

Various gifts will be raffled throughout the night.  The grand prize drawing for a barbecue grill donated by Ace Hardware at the Triphammer Marketplace will be just before the fireworks begin.  After the fireworks the band will play again until around 11pm.  Dave Hatfield will be selling hot dogs and sausages, and the Megamoo truck will provide ice cream.

Griffin says the Tompkins County Sheriff's Department will be on hand to control traffic, especially after the show.  A group from the Asbury Church will be greeting visitors at the gate and accepting donations.  Griffin says that generous donations last year made it possible to have a bigger show this year.

"The more donations we get, the more show we can provide this coming year," he says.

The Lansing High School Football Team will be directing parking in the park.  Once the park is full visitors can park at the Lansing Schools lot.  Shuttle busses will run from the schools to Myers Park until around 11pm.

"Anyone who has guests coming to cottages near the park should tell them to come before 8 o'clock," Griffin warns.  "After that the road coming to Myers Park will be closed."

Griffin says the Lansing Fire Department will be on hand, Bob Munson will provide lighting at the park entrance, and Alternative Waste will handle trash.

This year for the first time Lansing has a 'rain date' of July 5th incase next Friday's weather doesn't cooperate.

On Saturday, July 4th, another big crowd is expected in Myers Park for the Lansing Lion's Club annual 4th of July Chicken barbecue.
