posticon Lansing Takes on Legends of the Night, Celebrates Seniors

The athletes who converged on the track at Odessa-Montour Fiday night took advantage of dry skies between the rain whenever they could as they competed in the Legends of the Night Invitational.

In the girls competition, the teams from Newark Valley and Lansing pulled away from the field of 23 teams, finishing 1-2 with final scores of 121 and 112 respectively over third place Spencer Van Etten (43 points).  Newark Valley swept the relays and saw highly-ranked Courtney McNeil climb atop the podium three times as she won the 100 and 200 meter sprints and anchored the 400m relay.

Lansing defeated Trumansburg on a cold and windy Monday game that was marked by strong pitching from sophomore Garrett Bell. Lansing took an initial 2-0 lead with Eric Eastman and Chris Weil scoring in the top of the 5th inning.

T-burg fought back with the next at bat and was able to halve the lead when a fly ball in the gap brought in a runner from third. That was as close as T-Burg would get in the 2-1 Lansing victory. Pitcher Garret Bell limited T-burg to 3 hits through 6 innings striking out 7 batters from the Raiders.

posticon Lansing Track & Field Sets New Records

track1A section IV record, a facility record, and four school records were set and one school record was tied over the weekend. The Lansing track and field teams traveled to Moravia for the Blue Devil Relays, an invitational with a nearly twenty year history, and posted record-setting performances throughout the day.

Starting off the run on records was the team of senior Emily Gallagher and freshman Gwen Gisler. At that point, Gallagher held both the invididual section IV and school pole vault record (12'3") as well as the school long jump record (17'4"). She and Gisler added their names to school record history in the long jump relay, with combined jumps of 30'3".

Lansing Baseball has been on a hot streak going 4-0 in its last 4 starts since losing to Union Springs 4/26. The Bobcats have have outscored their opponent 48-9 over the last week with the following wins:

4-2 victory at Groton
13-0 win over Whitney Point at home
23-6 over Marathon for an away win
8-1 road win at Dryden

track1The Lansing track and field teams headed north to Southern Cayuga for a double dual meet versus the hosting school and Whitney Point. Both the boys and girls teams secured team victories: the boys final team scores were 128-8 (Lansing-Whitney Point) and 91-45 (Lansing-Southern Cayuga). Southern Cayuga boys outscored Whitney Point, 69-26.

The Ladycats outpaced Whitney Point (102-20) and Southern Cayuga (101-21) while Whitney Point was victorious over Southern Cayuga (47-35).

Lansing varsity baseball traveled to Union Springs to play the Wolves on Wednesday April 26th.

Lansing was looking for revenge after the only loss of the season, a 4-0 shut out, came against the senior laden class B Wolves which have combined both the Union Springs and Port Byron school district to form their squad.

An early lead helped the Lansing Bobcats Varsity Baseball defeat the visiting Moravia Devils 5-3 on Monday. Lansing scored on a single by Griffen Nelson in the first inning, a double by Garrett Bell in the first inning, and a double by Nelson in the second inning.

Lansing took an early lead in the first inning when Griffen Nelson singled on a 2-2 count in the first inning, scoring two runs.

The T.C. Wranglers 10U Travel Spring/Summer youth hockey team with skaters from Cortland, Tompkins and Chemung County won the Three Rivers Cup tournament series in Pittsburgh, Pa. May 5-7, 2017.

The Wranglers brought home the Championship Cup with solid team play from top to bottom on their roster; 12 of the 13 skaters recorded at least 1 point and N. Oplinger was rock-solid in goal.

baseball1Pitchers Team Up as Lansing Bobcats Shuts Out TAE

The Lansing Bobcats Varsity Baseball team defeated TAE 1-0 on Monday as two pitchers combined to throw a shutout. Garrett Bell struck out a TAE batter with a full count and runners at second and third to finish off the game.

The pitching was strong on both sides where Eric Eastman and Garret Bell hurlers struck out eight, while TAE pitchers sat down 14 Bobcat players. Trey McDonald recorded the winning run batted in.

The Lansing track and field teams traveled to Newark Valley last Saturday where the Ladycats were undeterred by low temperatures and gusting winds, securing the overall team title over 20 other teams.

Senior Emma Dhimitri won both the 100M hurdles and the 400M hurdles and took second in the triple jump. She also joined Sam Mauser, Catalina Zaloj, and Catie Eisenhut as the anchor of the winning 4x400M relay team that set a new meet record. These performances would earn Dhimitri the title of co-MVP for the track meet, an honor she shared with top Newark Valley sprinter Courtney Maule who won the 100M and 200M sprints as well as anchoring the Cardinals' winning 4x100M relay.

The Lansing Varsity Baseball team defeated Whitney Point 9-3 on Monday after taking the lead late in the game. Lansing Baseball was down 2-1 in the top of the fifth inning when Lansing Miller singled, driving in two runs. The baseball squad secured the victory thanks to a five runs fifth inning.

Whitney Point took an early lead in the first inning when a fielding error and a Whitney Point double brought in one with two outs in the first inning.

Lansing's track and field teams hosted their first meet of the season on Monday, facing off against Union Springs and Marathon. Lansing's Ladycats were victorious against both visiting teams, scoring 97 points to Marathon's 27 and 91 points to Union Spring's 37. Unions Springs girls bested Marathon, 90-29. The Union Springs boys secured team wins against Lansing (79-61) and Marathon (103-32) while Lansing won over Marathon (97-38).

The varsity girls track and field team is returning most of its scorers from last season, and performances on Monday indicated that these athletes have their sights set high once again for this spring. Seniors Emily Gallagher (2016 NYSPHSAA Div II pole vault champion) and Ashley Smith and junior Miya Kuramoto are coming off successful indoor track & field seasons; all three qualified for and competed at the recent NYSPHSAA championships, with Kuramoto and Gallagher securing 3rd and 5th place in the pole vault, respectively.

baseball varsity 2 120Lansing varsity boys defeated Trumansburg 4-1 on Wednesday after taking the lead late in the game. Lansing took an early lead in the second inning when Jack Babuka scored from third on a passed ball.

The game became tied in the sixth inning, however Lansing regained the lead at the bottom of the sixth when David Waldman singled, driving in one run.
