The Lansing Bobcat boys varsity basketball closed out the regular season with two road games, losing to the Union Springs Wolves Tuesday, February 6th and winning against the Trumansburg Blue Raiders on Friday February 9th.

In the Tuesday game in Union Springs, Luke Winslow controlled the tip off, and Langston Hopkins opened the Lansing scoring with a jump shot. The Wolves were able to answer off an offensive rebound, and applied strong defensive pressure with a press and 2-3 zone, keeping the Lansing scorers uncomfortable all night. A 9-0 U.S. run would bring a Lansing time out with 3 minutes expired in the first quarter. A subsequent Winslow 3 pointer would allow the Bobcats to gain some ground, now down 9-5.

A Griffin Nelson 3 pointer on a subsequent possession would start the Lansing scoring with a Hopkins 3 building the lead to 6-2. Whitney Point’s big man was a force on the boards, but Lansing was able to continue their hot shooting, leading by as many as 15 points with a minute left in the frame.

The Lansing Bobcat boys varsity basketball had another good week, with wins against the Marathon Olympians on Friday, January 19th and against the Trumansburg Blue Raiders on Monday, January 22nd.

In last Friday's game, Marathon took the tip off, and quickly put a layup in for the first points of the contest. Joe Miller-LaBar would open the Lansing scoring by sinking 2 from the charity stripe shortly after. Lansing's defensive pressure yielded a couple steals, but the team was not able to convert them into points. After an easy Marathon layup, the Bobcats called a time out with 5:14 to go, down 8-4. Luke Winslow was able to hit two 3 pointers to close the quarter, with the last one giving Lansing their first lead, 12-11.

The Lansing Bobcat boys varsity basketball had a successful week, with wins against the Southern Cayuga Chiefs on Friday, January 12th and against the Edison Spartans on Tuesday, January 16th.

In Friday’s game, Southern Cayuga controlled the tip off, and was able to put in the first points of the night with a 3 pointer. Lansing’s artillery was somewhat off the mark, with 3 minutes elapsing before Joe Miller-LaBar’s 3 pointer would crack the ice for the Bobcats. A steal and layup by Miller-LaBar would close the 1st quarter, with Lansing up by a score of 10-8. In the 2nd quarter, Ethan Burt put in the first Bobcat bucket with a 3 point shot and Langston Hopkins got in the scorebook with a nicely executed pick & roll to the hoop. The Chiefs stayed within striking distance however, and the first half would end with Lansing holding a 26-20 lead.

Groton struggled with the Lansing pressure, and with 2:30 minutes to go in the first, the Indians called their first timeout, down 16-6. The Lansing Bobcat boys varsity basketball team struggled a bit to close out 2017, with 3 losses against Newark Valley, Dryden, and Moravia entering the holiday break.

On Friday, December 15th, the Bobcats traveled to Newark Valley to face the Cardinals. Garrett Bell opened the scoring with a 3 pointer, and Griffin Nelson added a nice floater to give Lansing a quick 5-0 lead, but NV came back with 6 points of their own. Luke Winslow tied the game with a foul shot, but some sloppy defense allowed NV to build a 20-8 lead. The Bobcats battled back though, with a Winslow 3 pointer bringing the score to 22-19 Newark Valley at the end of the 1st quarter. In the 2nd quarter, both teams traded buckets through most of the frame. Some misses from the charity stripe could have helped the Bobcats, but in spite of that, they were still able to gain a 35-33 Lansing lead on a Langston Hopkins drive just before the half time buzzer.

The Lansing Bobcat boys varsity basketball team pulled off an incredible come-from-behind win against Whitney Point, on the Eagles home court, on Tuesday December 12th.

The first half belonged to Whitney Point, with the Eagles opening the scoring. Our Bobcats were getting some decent looks, in spite of WP's 6'7" junior center clogging up the middle, but the ball just wouldn't fall. On the other end of the court, the Eagles had little difficulty scoring, and the 1st quarter ended with the Bobcats down 15-2. Luke Winslow opened the 2nd frame with a nice 3 pointer, but the Lansing squad struggled to close the deficit. The Eagles center got the crowd fired up with a dunk off a missed layup part way through the quarter, and the Bobcats finished the first half down 33-15.

The Lansing Bobcat boys varsity basketball team split their first two home games of the season last week, with a win against Union Springs on November 28th and a loss against Elmira Notre Dame on December 1st.

In their first contest of the week, both teams focused on perimeter shootings in the first quarter, with a 'drive and dump to the outside' approach.  Both teams somewhat struggled with shooting accuracy, however, with Lansing going 0-7 to start.  Luke Winslow scored the  first points of the game and season with a driving lay-up between two defenders. The Bobcats finished the quarter down 7-12. In the 2nd frame, Lansing used tough defense to force several turnovers, narrowing their deficit to 15-20 at half time.
