cosmogenesisScience Cabaret presents a theatrical tour through the 13.8 billion-year, scientific timeline of the Universe, Milky Way, and Earth. Audience members will playfully be tested for 'Cosmic Deficit Disorder,' and at various moments in the show, you may be invited to become a photosynthetic cell or a multi-cellular organism as we reveal hidden social technology from the ancient sea that may guide us into a viable future of life on Earth.

'Cosmogenesis: The Story Of Us' is a captivating one- woman show that joins the science of Cosmology with storytelling to illuminate the 13.8 billion year creative story of the Universe. The show is told in six acts and highlights epic non-repeating moments from the first Flaring Forth, to the creation of Hydrogen, and the anatomy of the Milky Way. The two-hour show moves from profound, to sexy, to hilarious. It is educational and yes, participatory! In the dynamic sixth act, willing audience members are invited to jump into the show and animate the story. In deep time, we move from single-celled organisms, to photosynthesis, to life emerging from the sea onto Land. We come up through the ages to arrive at the modern 21st Century Human. This performance aims at eliciting an experience of belonging in the big story of our cosmological origins so as to cast a revolutionary light onto how we creatively move into the future.

cornellonhill 120"Firing the Canon," a College of Arts and Sciences Sesquicentennial exhibit opening in November, explores how Cornell's prized collection of plaster casts was "embraced, defaced, and dethroned." Cornell used to have one of the largest collections of plaster casts in North America, attracting many tourists to Ithaca. But over time, casts fell out of favor, and the collection deteriorated.

The official opening for "Firing the Canon" will be Thursday November 6th, at 4:30 pm, and will then be open weekdays in November and December from 10 am to 4 pm or by appointment. About twenty casts from Cornell's remaining 500 or so pieces will be on display. The exhibit is housed in the Weinhold Chilled Water Plant at 101 Forest Home Drive, next to Beebe Lake.

microbirth'Microbirth' looks at childbirth in a whole new way; through the lens of a microscope. Featuring Ivy League scientists, among them Cornell University Immunotoxicology Professor, Rodney Dietert, the film investigates the latest research that is starting to indicate modern birth practices could be interfering with critical biological processes. This could be making our children more susceptible to disease later in life.

Recent population studies have shown babies born by Caesarean Section have approximately:
  • 20% increased risk of developing asthma
  • 20% increased risk of developing type 1 diabetes
  • 20% increased risk of obesity
  • slightly smaller increases in gastro-intestinal conditions like Crohn's disease or celiac disease.
These conditions are all linked to the immune system.

rosenberg 120Aurora, New York— Wells College's Visiting Assistant Professor Of English Dan Rosenberg Recently Won The 2014 Omnidawn Poetry Chapbook Contest For His Original Chapbook, "Thigh's Hollow." The Chapbook, Culled From A Larger Manuscript Written For His Doctoral Dissertation, Features A Collection Of Poems Written In An Identical Voice And In A Form That Rosenberg Invented—One Made Up Of The Exact Same Number Of Lines And Syllables. "Part Of The Idea Is That It Takes The Same Amount Of Time To Read Each Poem," Said Rosenberg. "This 'Straightjacket' Of Form Creates The Voice. It Rises Out Of Constriction."

The Narrative Voice That Unifies These Works Is Based On The Biblical Character Of Esau, Who Is Tricked Into Selling His Birthright To His Twin Brother, Jacob. "He's Kind Of The 'Other Brother' From This Traditional Story. I'm Not Retelling The Myth, But Using Him To Get At Problems Of Faith Or Divine Conflicts," Rosenberg Said. "Esau Is The One Who Doesn't Get Chosen."

posticon Lonely Planet Next At Kitchen

kitchen front120Following the world premiere of The House, Kitchen Theatre Company will offer Steven Dietz's powerful and moving Lonely Planet. Lonely Planet tells the story of two friends, Jody and Carl, who use their wit and sense of absurdity to negotiate the turbulent world at the height of the AIDS crisis. Lonely Planet begins previews on October 15, with opening night on October 18. The play runs until November 2.

Carl and Jody are close friends but very different from one another. Carl, a chameleon of a man, tells stories about his life, claiming variously to bean art restorer, a tabloid journalist, a plant waterer, or an auto glass replacer; he is a ball of energy exploding constantly. Jody, Carl's best friend, is the opposite. He has retreated from the upheaval outside, preferring to ponder the Greenland problem inside his map store. Each day, Carl charges into their intimate, fabricated world at full throttle, challenging Jody to keep up and play along until reality becomes unavoidably real.
