Hoboken, NJ - Michael Watson, writer and creator of the new ITHAQA comic, is taking ITHAQA on tour to the city that shares its name, Ithaca, NY, as well as to neighboring cities, from March 20th through March 28th.  ITHAQA is a comedy-turned-Lovecraftian horror story that will appeal to readers who enjoyed HBO's "True Detective", but thought it would be copacetic if it had been set at the advent of the roaring 20s. In ITHAQA, filmmaker and conman, Mookie Smitts, stumbles upon the horrible Eldritch Truth of the cosmos, as a moving picture he is struggling to produce in the 1920's accidentally uncovers a plot to destroy the Spacetime Continuum.

In Ithaca, Watson's tour takes the comic to Buffalo Street Books on Friday, March 20th: Ithacon (the 45ᵗʰ year of this comic book convention!) on Saturday and Sunday March 21st and 22ⁿᵈ at Ithaca College; to Comics For Collectors on Wednesday, March 25ᵗʰ; and a comic book creation workshop for kids with the Wharton Studio Museum and The History Center taking place at the Tompkins Center for History & Culture the morning of Saturday, March 28th. More tour stops – possibly Elmira and Syracuse -- will be announced as they are confirmed.

posticon YAMATO – The Drummers of Japan at Cornell

YAMATO is described as the "epitome of the Japanese spirit," bringing new life to the traditional Japanese taiko and wadaiko drums by paying respect to its rich history, and exploring contemporary drumming styles. The modern and physically powerful troupe – comprised of dozens of musician-athletes – starts each performance by hitting a Japanese Taiko drum weighing half a ton, made from a single piece of wood from a 400-year-old tree. They move their whole bodies to strike the traditional Japanese instrument with the belief that the drumbeat, like the heartbeat, is the very pulse of life and the epitome of the Japanese spirit.

Employing "vibrant and extremely precise" choreography, YAMATO's new program PASSION! has been deemed by London One "an exhilarating and worthwhile experience" and "quite a revelation for those experiencing this kind of dynamic performance for the first time." "Everything related to YAMATO – the stage, the Taiko drums, every bit of our bodies – has been created from the energy and passion of the audience," says Founder and Artistic Director Masa Ogawa. "Live performances are so full of intensity that they make people's bodies jump and their hearts race faster. Audiences are overwhelmed by the beat of the music, as their spirits, bodies and heartbeats are uplifted in sync with the powerful sounds. What moves YAMATO forward is its passion."
