Jeffrey S. Lewis, M.D., D.M.D. was recently named the physician recipient of the 2015 Louis Munchmeyer Award for Excellence at the Cayuga Medical Center Medical Staff Annual Meeting earlier this month.

"I am truly honored to be receiving this award in Dr. Munchmeyer's name.  Dr. Munchmeyer was an exceptional physician who dedicated his life to caring for the people of this community." said Lewis.

Lewis has been practicing oral and maxillofacial surgery at his office in downtown Ithaca for over 20 years.  He is Chairman of the Department of Dentistry and Oral Surgery at Cayuga Medical Center, as well as the Founder and Director of the Cayuga Medical Center Cleft Palate and Facial Deformities Team and Clinic.

Munchmeyer was on the medical staff at Cayuga Medical Center for 38 years and was known for his kind demeanor and the interest he showed toward the many patients that he treated. The Medical Staff Executive Committee at Cayuga Medical Center felt that he based his medical practice upon the principles of excellence of care for patients, concern for patient quality of life, and community involvement. This award honors individuals who emulate these qualities.
