You hear a lot about how good the Lansing school system is, with a good learning environment, high scores, and a quite high retention record.  But one family decided to put their money where their mouths are when they donated $5,000 to Lansing High School.  "They were very appreciative of the education that the girls got," says Principal Michelle Stone.  "They felt that it was important that they give something back to the school that gave the girls all of the opportunities that they had."

The parents of recent graduates Maryanne and Veronica Choi, both professors in Korea, took a sabbatical to bring their girls to Lansing to complete their education.  The couple had studied at the University of Pittsburgh before returning to Korea, and the girls were born in the US.  The family moved to Lansing in time for both girls to enroll as sophomores, and both are in US colleges now.

The sisters were involved in just about everything the high schoolhas to offer, according to Stone.  "They dabbled in lots of different things," she says.  "One of the girls played golf, one did the musicals, so they were involved just all over the place."

Stone says she hasn't decided exactly how to put the money to use, but she has some ideas.  "At this point, I think they would like it to go toward some sort of equipment for students," she says.  "That's what they have requested.  So I'll be doing something with it that the kids will be able to use.  I'm just not sure yet what that will be."
