Congressman Michael Arcuri
U.S. Representative Michael A. Arcuri (D-Utica) met last week with representatives at Lansing's Transonic Systems, Inc.  The agenda focused on job creation and improving healthcare while lowering costs.

Arcuri has been a strong proponent of job creation in the region including his introduction of legislation to bring much-needed job creation and economic development resources to the upstate New York region.

“Transonic has been a model for the creation of skilled jobs and economic growth,” said Arcuri.

Transonic Systems, Inc. is the world leader in blood flow measurement devices used in surgery, health clinics and life science research.

Congressman Arcuri, an advocate for improving access to quality healthcare, discussed the potential to improve the health and quality-of-life of U.S. citizens receiving healthcare treatments.  Clinical studies have shown Transonic’s technology has the potential to eliminate $1.5 billion of cost to taxpayers annually, through preventative diagnosis leading to improved care and elimination of costly emergency surgeries.

Transonic Systems, founded in 1983 by Cornelis Drost, maintains its global headquarters and almost all of its skilled jobs in Ithaca, employing over 110 people locally.  With plans to increase its plant capacity to 63,000 sq feet over the next year, Transonic continues to advance healthcare, even in the face of an economic downturn.

“We have always had strong connections with Cornell University,” said Drost.  “We are collaborating with our colleagues there to assist other medical startups in the area.”

Transonic is a wholly owned subsidiary of Measurement Innovations Corporation (MIC), also based in Ithaca.   MIC also formed the Warren Road Business Park, home to 7 companies which have created over 325 additional jobs for the local economy.
