capitalbuilding 120Tom Reed, co-chair of the House Manufacturing Caucus and sponsor of the Revitalize American Manufacturing and Innovation Act (RAMI), applauded the recent opening of the second high tech manufacturing hub under his bill.

"We care about creating the quality, family-sustaining jobs of today and tomorrow right here in the United States. We were able to start that process with the passage of the Revitalize American Manufacturing and Innovation Act in 2014, and it's great to see this concept take off. It's only right we continue developing our high needs manufacturing industries, which will help bring those jobs back to our shores."

The newest high tech manufacturing hub will center on developing Revolutionary Fibers and Textiles in Massachusetts. It will bring together 89 companies, universities, and non-profits and be led by the Advanced Functional Fabrics of America (AFFOA), at the Samberg Conference Center, Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), Cambridge, Massachusetts.

Cornell University in Reed's district will also have a role to play in the hub.

In 2014, Reed's RAMI legislation was signed into law, cutting across party lines with roughly 100 co-sponsors, and was eventually signed into law.

The bill requires the Department of Commerce, and other agencies, to develop high tech manufacturing hubs to encourage innovation and economic development.  The ultimate aim of the law is to create the jobs of the 21st century domestically and revitalize America's manufacturing industry.

Reed's home district in Western New York was the first to receive a high tech hub following the passage of the bill.  The hub in Western New York focuses on photonics, or the study of light.
