mailmanWe are the residents of 101 Salmon Creek Road. 500 feet from our house is the firing line of the Rod and Gun Clubs proposed new trap range. The range will run directly behind our house on a very steep slope that has been designated by Tompkins County as a Unique Nature Area.

The EPA signed a consent agreement with the Gun Club in which the Club would agree to stop shooting lead into Salmon Creek, the dangers of lead being well known. Why is it okay to shoot lead all over the hillside behind our house? Considering the desire of 20 to 30 hobby trap shooters to have everything exactly the way they want, despite the effect on our property value, our health and our safety, seems wrong.

The increased cost of using steel shot is a small price to pay to settle this entire issue. Not only does steel shot stop the Rod and Gun Club from further polluting the area with lead but it also saves them the expense of moving their range, it also avoids the ill will of ignoring, endangering, and poisoning their neighbors, and the community.
