ImageDear Mr. Veaner,

I read with interest your article concerning the April 12 Board of Education meeting.  I was also at that meeting.  I, too, heard Mr. Thaler's OPINION.  And I thought it interesting, and somewhat prejudicial and unprofessional of you to report an opinion without reporting the other side of the story as presented by Ms Stacie Kropp.  Ms Kropp clearly demonstrated that the teachers in the district are supportive of the community as evidenced by their giving back to the community $33,000 over the past three years as well as $28,000 this year alone.  If you are writing an opinion piece then, by all means, be unfair.  But something on the front page is supposed to be news, and news in this country is supposed to be presented in a "fair and balanced" manner.  Shame on you for passing along your sympathies as if they were fact.

Editor's Note:  I stand by my reporting of Mr. Thaler's statement.  He is a prominent community leader with influence on the budget as a school board member whose opinion directly impacts his vote on the budget.  That is news.  I have certainly reported in depth on teachers' opinions expressed in school board meetings over the past month.

However I agree with Ms. Schwartz that Ms. Kropp's announcement about monies LFA is giving back to the community should have been included.  I thought it had been, and I thank Ms. Schwartz and others who pointed out that it was not there.  Click here for the piece that was left out.
