mailmanLike many couples, my husband and I had plans for Valentine’s. When the day came, it was the last thing on our minds. My sister died unexpectedly the previous week, and I was still away because of it. Coming home there was much to do. I was too sad to contemplate more than catching up on home and work matters.

But last week, it occurred to me that, though late, we should still celebrate our life and love. I called Jay Dietershagen of Crossroads Bar & Grill in Lansing. On March 1, we enjoyed the Valentine’s dinner Jay created just for us. Not from his normal, casual menu, we were treated to a flavorful seasonal salad accented by a stuffed, bacon-wrapped date, a course of pulled pork, an entrée of tender beef with gravy over vegetable croquettes, and a finale of chocolate chip cookies with marble ice cream. Served with wine and beer on a table by the fireplace adorned with a pitcher of fresh flowers and tea lights, we couldn’t have asked for more.

Jay and his staff have shown that a business can still be about people even in this age of hustle and bustle. Thank you Crossroads!
