On Saturday November 10, five Tompkins Girls Hockey Association (TGHA) coaches became certified 'Put the Biscuit in the Net' (PBN) leaders through instruction by Yevet Anderson, PBN founder and USA Hockey Director for the Mid-American District.  PBN is a collaborative program of USA Hockey and the Girl Scouts of the USA.

Diane Duthie, Matt Ulinski, Ed Pasto, Becky Waddle and Barbara Horton are TGHA coaches who can offer PBN which introduces girls hockey to Girl Scouts  ages 5-19 in a series of three sessions which culiminates with a PBN badge. The format of Girl Scout programs will be familiar to PBN participants.

Teamwork between the Girl Scouts of the USA, Tompkins Girls Hockey Association (TGHA), and NYSAHA (New York State Amateur Hockey Association district of USA Hockey) has made the Ithaca area PBN program possible. NYSAHA has a supply of hockey equipment sets for events like PBN that introduce more young people to the sport.

Pre-registration is required for the PBN three sessions to be held at The RINK on E. Shore Drive.  Girl Scouts will attend as individuals or with their troops on Wed. Dec. 5, Tues. Dec. 18, and Thurs. Jan. 3.  There will be on ice activities and all equipment is provided for participants.  Coaches and players from TGHA will be at every session. Special guests from Cornell women's ice hockey, the Ithaca Shooting Stars, the Ithaca High girls varsity team, and the USA Olympic team will be invited, too.

Girls/Women's Ice Hockey is one of the fastest growing sports in America. Over 46,000 girls and women currently play hockey in the United States. In today's society we are all looking for a way to expose our young women to activities that will nurture life skills, sportsmanship, friendship, leadership and, most of all, wholesome, fun activities that can last a lifetime. The joining of Girl Scouts and girls hockey is natural. The PBN sessions are designed to introduce girls to the basics of ice hockey in a format similar to other scout programs with a patch to be earned and other familiar components.
