ImageThe Lansing Boys' Varsity Swim Team defeated Dryden on Tuesday, December 18, 2007.  The score was 103-83.  Once again, the team was led by All-American Senior swimmer, Jake Sangren.  According to Assistant Coach Reed Dewey, "Jake swam  well."  Sangren had first place finishes in the 50 freestyle and the 100 freestyle.  Sangren's time of 22.55 in the 50 freestyle was a state qualifying time and gave him an 'all-time top 10 performance' (no. 3) by a Lansing swimmer in this event.  His time of 50.06 in the 100 freestyle also gave him an 'all-time top 10 performance' (no. 4).  He was also part of the winning relay teams – the 200 medley relay and the 200 freestyle relay.

The team continues to be very consistent with its first place finishes.  Dan Ravas (Junior) came in first in the 200 freestyle and also in the 100 butterfly.  David Bandler (Junior) finished first in the 100 breaststroke.  Ari Darlow (Junior) placed first in the 500 freestyle.  The team also posted an important first place finish in the 100 backstroke by Freshman Clement Towner.

When asked about other contributing factors to this win, Head Coach Brian Vaughan stated that the team had important points added by its 2nd and 3rd place finishers. He also said, "The younger guys did a really nice job and that's what made the difference."

ImageThe team defeated Odessa-Montour on December 19, 2007, also at Lansing.  The score was 91-58.  Senior All-American Jake Sangren recorded a new Lansing school record (5:06.15) in the 500 freestyle.  According to Assistant Coach, Reed Dewey, "It was good to see this record change; it has been a long time."  Head Coach Brian Vaughan added, "Jake is recording some fast swims."  The previous record (5:07.58) was set in 1999.

The team's 200 medley relay team posted an 'all-time top 10 performance' (no. 8) by a Lansing relay team.  The time was 1:45.26 and the team included:  Jake Sangren (backstroke), David Bandler (breaststroke), Dan Ravas (butterfly), Casey Hagin (freestyle).

The other first place finishes by Lansing swimmers were:

200 freestyle:  Clement Towner   2:03.52

200 individual medley:  Dan Ravas   2:23.81

50 freestyle:  Casey Hagin   1:03.58

100 freestyle:  Dan Ravas   53.92

Odessa Montour had first place finishes in the 100 backstroke (Adam Zimmer – 1:12.95); 100 breaststroke (Jesse Johnson – 1:14.79); 400 freestyle relay (Cameron Ozling, Adam Zimmer, Jesse Johnson, Todd Kautz – 4:13.39).

Lansing's next swim meet will be on January 3, 2008 vs. Waverly at Lansing.
