ImageThe Lansing varsity tennis team lost 7 senior players from last year so this will be a pretty inexperienced squad. The team has been practicing outside in the cold for only 2 weeks. Tuesday Lansing lost a very close match at Waverly 3-4.

Winning matches for Lansing were #3 Singles Dan Zarate and #4 Jesse Ingall and the #3 doubles team of Jonathon Sun and Keenan Hughes who are 7th and 8th graders with potential to help the team succeed. Dealing with nerves was Tomas Bobovsky, exchange student from Slovokia who was Lansing's #1 singles player.

Others with first match jitters were doubles partners, Nick Mallinson and Lydia Warkentin and Nick Urbany and Nicolo Gentile. As the weather improves so will the team's skills. Lansing challenges Trumansburg in a home game on Monday, March 31st beginning at 4:30.

Lee Smith (W) defeated Tomas Bobovsky 6-3,6-2; Nate Kennedy (W) defeated Tyler Engels 6-1, 6-2; Dan Zarate (L) defeated Mike Short 6-3,6-0; Jesse Ingall (L) beat Dan Cortland 6-4,6-1; B.Kraus/JLawrence (W) defeated N.Mallinson/Warkentin 7-6,4-6, 7-5; J.Short/JGable (W) defeated Urbany/Gentile 7-5,1-6,8-7 and Jonathon Sun/Keenan Hughes (L) defeated Longley/Lin 7-5,6-2.
