ImageIn Tuesday’s IAC volleyball match, both Lansing and Trumansburg delivered well executed offense and tough, responsive defense, in a high-intensity match replete with extended volleys.  Lansing’s performance far surpassed their earlier 0-3 loss to Tburg.  The turning point happened in game one when Lansing players connected with a core of mental toughness and determination that they sustained throughout the match.

After Lansing won the first point of the match, Trumansburg got off to a fast start, picking up a 7-point lead.  The Bobcats then stepped up to their opponent’s quick offense, hustling back to a one-point difference midway through the game.  Tburg held the lead with a score that foreshadowed the match outcome (25-18, 25-19, 10-25, 25-17).

Team stats shed light on a story not reflected by game scores.  Kari Fenner, Brooke Burke, and Nicolo Gentile had 27, 28, and 33 digs, respectively, including a dramatic dive by Nicolo in game one.  The team’s spacing was a huge contributing factor to their court coverage.  Lansing’s co-players of the night were Desi Burke for her ability to be where she was needed every time and Tara Miller for taking steam off Tburg’s offense by guarding the net.  Five team members had service aces, led by Ashley Schuster with four.  Taylor Bandler had 11 assists, and Burke led the offense with 8 kills, followed by Tory Cutting with 6.

Lansing’s potential shined in their decisive win in game three, ending with a 15-point lead - the biggest spread of the match.  The team keeps getting stronger, both individually and as a unit.  Come cheer them on in their last two home games against Dryden on Tuesday October 14th and Union Springs on Friday October 17th.
