basketball_girls120The Lansing Ladycats opened the 2011 season with 3-0 record, with wins at Groton to start the year and consecutive home wins over Union Springs and Whitney Point. In the opener the the Ladycats used a 21-0 first quarter run to secure a 63-13 victory.

Leading the way was Colby McCartney with 12 points and a team high 9 rebounds while sister Maura McCartney also had 12 points. Carlene Fields added 9 points and a team high 4 assists, Taylor Policay had 8 points and 7 rebounds, and Shea McCartney had 6 points and a team high 5 steals. Ten of the eleven players figured in the scoring and they all contributed defensively in a solid team effort that limiting Groton to 8% shooting from the field.

The home opener saw the Ladycats defeat Union Springs 64-7 on a night where defense led the way as they limited the Wolves to three field goals and everyone contributed offensively in the score column. Seniors Taylor Policay and Colby McCartney each had 11 points while Policay had a team high 17 rebounds and 4 assists and McCartney had 10 rebounds. Shanna Shaff had 9 points and a team high 9 steals, and Sabrina Tilton had 8 points.

On Tuesday night the Ladycats defeated Divisional foe Whitney Point 48-30. Shanna Shaff led the way with 17 points and a team high 6 steals and 6 rebounds, and Maura McCartney added 11 points and a team high 5 assists. The contest was close throughout, with the Cats holding a slim 24-17 halftime lead, however, they broke the game open with 24-13 advantage in the second half.

The Ladycats travel to Moravia on Friday.
