lumc_120Lansing United Methodist Church (LUMC) will celebrate its 50th anniversary with several events throughout the 2013-14 church calendars. Bishop Mark Webb will be preaching Sunday, October 13 to start a year full of events to recognize the founding of the church.

In October of 1963 LUMC was founded—accomplished by the 'blood, sweat and tears' (and yes, money) of a visionary group of fellow Christians.  Before that there had been five local churches in the area that were each struggling financially and facing major renovations. These Founders (a number of whom still sit in LUMC’s pews on Sundays) were able to 'come together and dream big,' creating a vibrant congregation and spacious church building.

In honor and celebration of the anniversary, LUMC will be celebrating its 50th anniversary with events spread over the next year. Pastor Jane Sautter challenged the congregation to 'think big' again about what is possible to accomplish in the next 50 years.

The theme for the year is Celebrate, Inspire, Reaffirm. We are looking forward to upcoming events over the year—all of which will be energized with the 50th anniversary theme.  The kickoff event will feature Bishop Webb with other events including a harvest dinner, 5K race, adult night out, a pancake dinner and a revival and barbecue at Myers Park.
