americarecyclesOn Friday, November 15th, Tompkins County Solid Waste will celebrate America Recycles Day, a national campaign to raise awareness on the importance of recycling.

TCSW staff will be on hand at Ithaca’s Neighborhood Pride grocery store between 11am and 1pm to promote food scraps recycling. The family-owned store is located at 210 Hancock Street, in the city’s Fall Creek neighborhood.

Residents can stop by and learn more about how they can receive free of charge all the materials needed to further reduce the waste they generate and save on the cost of trash disposal.

“Food scraps recycling will play a major role in achieving the County’s goal of 75% waste diversion by 2016,” said solid waste division spokesman Geoff Dunn. “Right now, we’re at 60% waste diversion.”

Friday’s event will also feature information on other County recycling programs, as well as games and prizes. Neighborhood Pride will also be offering its famous Fish Fry for lunch that day.

America Recycles Day is nationally organized by Keep America Beautiful, a group dedicated to recycling education and awareness.
