"This is not just a Republican, one-party only dance. Everybody is invited to this," he says. "There are not going to be any speeches. basically it's about people of all different thoughts that will come together and talk to each other. I think our town has been divided too long by politics, when it's people first. This dance is indicative of what we're trying to do in Lansing, which is to bring people together. That's what this is about."
In the past the Lansing party has hosted chicken barbecues as their main annual fundraising event. This year LaVigne says the Lansing RepublicansParty is growing, and a new group in charge of the fundraising. They wanted to host a dance.
DJ Rick Uhl will provide the music. Uhl also DJed the Celebrate Lansing festival a few weeks ago. The event will also feature hourly drawings, a cash bar and food. Organizers are asking that people buy tickets in advance, which will help them gauge how much food to provide.
"The money will go to the Lansing Republican Party, no doubt about it," LaVigne says. "But this is more than that. Lansing is about people first, politics second. It's about bringing people together."
