scouts trees 120On Tuesday November 18th Lansing Pack 48 Cub Scouts spent an evening learning some ways to be good citizens.  The boys, aged from 6 – 11 and their families were introduced to what makes a good citizen by the Bear den during their opening citizen.  Dominick held up a 'Be a good citizen' sign after each of the other boys in the den read examples of how to be a good citizen.

After the opening, we held a ceremony to welcome two new Tiger Cubs, Brandon and Alex.  They had their faces decorated with a simple American flag as the colors were related to ways to be a good citizen and Cub Scout.

The Pack was visited by two Veterans from the Marine Corps, Dave Taylor and Jerry Rizzo.  Taylor arrived in Ceremonial uniform and talked to the boys about what a uniform is for, how to look after it and who should look after it (i.e. don't expect your mom to pick it up off the floor!).  Rizzo came in his flight suit to show the boys a working uniform and to explain the parts of the uniform and protective gear for flying an F18 helicopter.  The boys passed round Rizzo's helmet and the patch from his uniform that showed he was an F18 pilot.

At the end of the discussion, Taylor shared his experiences of spending Christmas overseas.  Kay Moore was introduced to the Cubs and she explained how Moore Tree Farm sends Christmas trees to troops serving overseas.  The boys made simple ornaments from beads, chenille stems and ribbon and signed gift tags to hang on the trees. Taylor suggested that it would mean a lot to the troops to receive a small piece of 'Christmas from home'.

Moore brought the six trees that are being mailed this year and each of the dens packed the ornaments, tags and extra decorations that were donated by the Pack families.  The boxes are on their way.
