Members of the Marine Corps League, Memorial Day Detachment 468, will be coordinating this year's 'Wreaths Across America' ceremony at the cemetery. The local Marine Corps League branch is made up of members from the surrounding Finger Lakes region and based out of Waterloo.
This year's ceremony will hold special significance for Senator Nozzolio. He will be accompanying his longtime staff member, Charles Romer, a Captain in the U.S. Army Reserve, as he lays a wreath at the grave of his recently deceased father, Roy Romer, MM1, U.S. Navy. Following the wreath laying ceremony, Nozzolio will speak on the sacrifices, dedication and commitment of our Nation's veterans.
Last year, Nozzolio was recognized by the Sampson Veterans Memorial Cemetery for his service to our Nation's veterans. A special commemorative plaque was placed on a stone in front of the entrance to the cemetery's Administration building and stands as a reminder of the Senator's efforts to create the Sampson Veterans Memorial Cemetery as a lasting tribute to our Nation's servicemen and women.
Nozzolio led the effort to create the Sampson Veterans Memorial Cemetery and has continued his aggressive efforts to support the Cemetery and our honored veterans.
The Wreaths Across America story began in 1992 when the Worcester Wreath Company from Harrington, Maine, initiated a tradition of donating and placing wreaths on the headstones of our Nation's fallen heroes at Arlington National Cemetery. Since then, the Wreaths Across America effort has expanded to cemeteries in all 50 States. Over 200,000 wreaths will be laid in honor at veteran's gravesites across America this Saturday.
