CDC President Stephanie Perine, and CDC members Dan Ferguson and Margaret Shackell-Dowell presented an oversized check to the Board Of Education last week. The computers will follow the students through future school years as well. Superintendent Chris Pettograsso thanked CDC members for their gift.
"To have teachers who want to do something and not being able to allow them to do so because of funding is certainly disappointing as a superintendent," said Superintendent Chris Pettograsso. "To have community groups like this help out is really great. It's not just a one night event."
CDC raises funds every year, with their largest annual event a dance and auction. Each year the dance has a different theme. This year's theme was the 1980s, attracting many Lansingites sporting period costumes. Last year they presented $22,000, and this year teachers asked them to consider outfitting the entire 4th grade with Chromebooks. Perine said the students will continue to use the computers as they progress through higher grade levels.
Chromebooks are economical computers that use Google's Chrome operating system. They take advantage of cloud computing to store pictures and documents, and are designed to be easy to use and maintain.
"On behalf of the children of Lansing thank you very much," said School Board member Glenn Swanson. "I know they'll be put to great use. We really appreciate and understand the value they bring. We know your team put a lot of effort into doing this. I know that behind the scenes a lot of work goes into it."

The Corporate Development Committee (CDC) of Lansing presented $26,650 to purchase 90 Chromebooks to be presented to 4th graders next September. "To have teachers who want to do something and not being able to allow them to do so because of funding is certainly disappointing as a superintendent," said Superintendent Chris Pettograsso. "To have community groups like this help out is really great. It's not just a one night event."
