Sally RamirezSally RamirezEach summer Lansing has the popular concert series in Myers and Ludlowvile Parks.  Last year the East Shore Arts Council (ESAC) started a Saturday night Concerts In The Courtroom series for the rest of the year.  This year ESAC is trying something different -- Sunday afternoon concerts for the whole family.  The new series kicks off this Sunday at 3pm in the Lansing Town Hall Courtroom with Latin jazz and American swing jazz with a touch of musical theater when Sally Ramirez and Chicos Dorados take the courtroom stage.

Ticket sales, program ads, and sponsorships fund the concerts.

"There are many helping hands working together to make this series happen, but there are two in particular that truly stand out," says ESAC President Karen Veaner.  "Steve Colt from the Lansing Rec Department has bent over backwards to support year-round music, thank you.  Lee Rayburn from WHCU and the Morning News Watch has supported the Concerts in the Courtroom from day one and helped to spread the word.  We are so lucky to have the quality programming and community support of the Cayuga Radio Group, thank you.  To all who bought a ticket, bought an ad, made a donation – either in time or dollars, thank you."

The new season offers three monthly concerts in the fall, and four in the spring, all at 3pm on a Sunday.  This Sunday's Latin Jazz with Sally Ramirez and Los Chicos Dorados will be followed by Blues with Pat Burke & Laura Pendleton (Nov 1), and Storytelling with Regi Carpenter (Dec 6).  In February the series starts up again with Latin Jazz with Jorge Cuevas & the Caribe Jazz Allstars (Feb 15), The Newlyweds – Joe and Karen from The Destination (Mar 6), Kirtan Chant with Mantra Magic (Apr 3), and Soft Rock with Dean’s List (May 1).

While funding the series is important, the ESAC board also says giving back to the Lansing community is equally important.  Students and seniors have always been offered half price tickets.  This year ESAC is taking that a step further.

"New this year, we offer free tickets to all active duty military personnel, police and emergency responders," says ESAC President Karen Veaner.  "We are so grateful for your service to our community."
