In 2015, Ithaca Carshare has expanded their program serving local organizations and businesses, and deepened partnerships with local organizations like the Cayuga Waterfront Trail and Bike Walk Tompkins. Ithaca Carshare's subsidized Easy Access program continues to be a success. Since 2010, 129 low-income community members have benefited from the program, reporting that access to Ithaca Carshare means more self-sufficiency and easier access to grocery stores and medical appointments.
2016 will bring some exciting changes to Ithaca Carshare. Member experience will improve with a new reservation software system starting in spring 2016, which will also streamline operations for the organization's staff. Organization leadership will continue working in Albany for a shift in New York State's insurance requirements, seeking a more stable pool of vendors willing to provide auto liability insurance to carsharing organizations.
As a 501(c)3 non-profit, Ithaca Carshare's financial position is strong; over 97% of expenses are covered by program income and in-kind donations from other organizations and individuals. Every year Ithaca Carshare depends on around 1,000 volunteer hours from their member community for car cleaning and snow clearing. Community donations like those from the upcoming Ithaca Alternative Gift fair allow Ithaca Carshare to continue their work for collaborative transportation solutions in Tompkins County.
