oldhousefairHistoric Ithaca is bringing back the beloved Old House Fair this fall in honor of its 50th anniversary year. Owners of historic and older homes, renters, history buffs, antique and furniture collectors, and anyone looking to have a fun and informative Saturday is welcome to attend this free community event on Saturday, September 17, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.

"We are so delighted to host our Old House Fair once again," says John Lewis, Executive Director. "It will be a wonderful, interactive day for the whole family, with activities for kids, too."

The only event of its kind in our region, Historic Ithaca held its first fair in 1993.  Vendor booths will offer a wide variety of services for older properties.  Homeowners are encouraged to bring photos, make appointments to consult with the Old House Doctors, and ask questions about how best to preserve, restore, or adapt their older properties or particular features.  Also on hand will be vendors who specialize in everything from old windows, door hardware, metalwork, and recycled items to antique and refinished furniture, home energy efficiency, and much more. Additionally, attendees will have a chance to browse and shop in Historic Ithaca’s reuse store, Significant Elements.

"During this boom in new downtown Ithaca construction, we're proud to play a leading role in helping our community care for and cherish older structures that add to the enjoyment and character of our community," Lewis says.  "We're bringing together an incredible group of knowledgeable and skilled craftspeople, preservationists, builders, and experts.  Together they are sure to inspire and inform area homeowners, renters, historic house enthusiasts, and everyone who treasures the beauty and craftsmanship of older and historic homes and neighborhoods. We want to help our community discover the resources they need, think through sustainable solutions, and connect with those who can help with a wide range of old house challenges and possibilities."
