In recognition of this high achievement, the Eagle Scouts of Troop 48 were presented a special award, the Masonic Eagle Scout Award. This distinctive and prized award is bestowed upon Eagle Scouts in recognition of their dedication to Scouting pursuits and achievement. The recipient receives the bronze citizenship medal approved by the BSA National Council, a commendation from Grand Lodge and a letter from the Grand Master. The Awards were presented by Marion George, from the Ithaca Freemasons.

The Recipients were: Joe Bailey, Andrew Gifft, David Jones, Frank Massi, Mark Bailey, Hunter Preston, and Brian Vaughan. Five of the seven recipients (Gifft, Jones, Massi, Mark Bailey and Preston) earned and received their Eagle Scout Award between June 2005 and March 2006. This is a remarkable achievement, considering that on average only 4 percent of all boys that join Boy Scouts earn this coveted award.

Troop 48 is lead by Scoutmaster, Richard Vaughan and many other dedicated adult volunteers who help boys, age 12 – 18 learn and achieve the goals of Scouting – citizenship training, character development, and personal fitness.
