'We Are Still In' is the broadest cross section of the American economy ever assembled to work on climate justice. Collectively, its members are stepping up to provide leadership and ensure that our country meets emissions targets specified under the Paris Agreement. The involvement of leaders in education as well as politics, economics and more will provide a balanced, long-term approach.
"The Paris Agreement represented a decisive moment—not just in our country but internationally—in addressing perhaps the biggest challenge facing us in the 21st century," said President Gibralter. "It would be a tragedy to lose our place of leadership in this area. On our campus we will continue to pursue responsible decision making, develop innovative ways to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and show our students what we can accomplish by working together."
Wells College signed the American College and University Presidents Climate Commitment in 2011, pledging to work towards a carbon neutral campus. President Gibralter—a charter signatory and member of the 2011-2012 steering committee for the Climate Commitment—signed onto an expanded agreement in 2015.
