Just over a dozen Lansing Lions were at Ludlowville Park last Friday, dishing out ice cream at the Lions Club's 7th annual Ice Cream Social. The event dovetails with the last Ludlowville Concert in the Park each summer. Since the first Ice Cream Social in 2011, the club has donated several benches, playground equipment, and a new pavilion, all of which were installed at Ludlowville Park.
"It's a community appreciation event," said Lansing Lions president Rick Hayes. "We have ice cream here, and hope to meet people and have a good time."
Entertainment was provided by Kip Opperman with Dan Paolangeli on guitar and Tommy Whittle on harmonica. Opperman and Richy Stano provided the music on the evening of the first Ice Cream Social in 2011 as well. That event was dedicated to the late Jim Howell, a charter member of the Lansing Lions who was instrumental in forming the club. Since that time the club has donated benches in Howell's honor, a teeter-totter, and last year a pavilion in honor of Howell and his wife, Phyllis.
This year nine gallons of ice cream plus toppings were donated by the Lake Breeze and Dottie's Ice Cream.
